How They Work

Semi-Spitzers are designed for use on thin skin game where maximum tissue damage is desired for an instant kill. They are carefully designed to ensure that they deliver a consistent, controlled mushroom at all impact velocities, for a reliable wound channel. The controlled expansion also means that unlike most lead core projectiles, the faster they are driven, the deeper they penetrate.

Design Features

Construction – Semi-Spitzers comprise a front section with a lead core bonded to a tapered copper jacket, with a solid copper base section. The copper section is lathe turned on high precision Swiss style CNC machines to provide a high degree of uniformity. Projectiles are cut from high quality copper bar stock to provide consistency throughout.

Meplat – The meplat consists of a small amount of exposed lead which has a slightly blunt or flat tip. This is to ensure that the meplat does not sustain damage before firing, while in the magazine. Upon impact, the meplat will expand to double diameter in a controlled manner.

Bonded Core - The copper walls containing the lead core are taper cut to ensure that they 'peel' open gradually in a controlled manner. This way, even at high impact velocities the projectile will mushroom consistently and not come apart. North Fork call this 'Designed Impact Geometries'. The bottom of the lead core has a reversed ogive shape to ensure the copper jacket has the greatest strength at maximum expansion, to prevent the front section from separating.

Driving Bands – 'Smart Band Technology' utilises multiple thin driving bands. These not only ensure a positive gas seal with virtually no barrel fouling, but also reduce chamber pressures by effectively halving the bearing surface, to greatly reduce friction.

Range of Weights – Semi-Spitzers are available in a large range of calibres form .257 to .474, and come in different weights in nearly all available calibres.

Note: Because these projectiles have solid bases, they are longer than pure lead core projectiles of the same weight. As such, they may require a faster twist than the same weight lead core projectile. Please check the Technical Data Sheet to ensure that the projectiles you are interested in are compatible with your rifle's barrel twist rate.
